In this article multiple ideas and reflections about the theory ant the practice of the region are introduced. The goal is to open the interdisciplinary debate about the professional practices we have available to choose, define, limit and build the space or region of study in our researches. The article allows to transit through the compartments, crossings and disciplinary conflicts between historians and geographers, due to the relevance to build knowledge about the region. It offers a walk through the practices of historians “defining the study space” from the nationalist XIX century anchorage, all the way to the Braudel efforts to establish a “Geo history” with all its temporary complexities. Its also approaches some efforts to understand the historical dynamics from the region, all the way from those undertaken by Luis Gonzalez, in his microhistory concept of the well known and intimate “terruño” and its theoretical displacements. The text recognizes the importance of the methodological construction and of working “the region as hypothesis” to understand its dynamic and numerous links and plausive contexts.
