Abstract

This article has the objective of showing the process that special education lived during the reorientation of its services, seeking the transition from a clinical-therapeutic approach to a social one; such reorientation was influenced by the educational integration and inclusion paradigms, this process analyzed from the point of view under the analysis of the Orientaciones generales para los servicios de educación especial  (“General guidelines for special education services”; SEP, 2006), as well as that stated in the Index for Inclusion (Booth and Ainscow, 2000).  This brief historical overview allows us to understand how these services are reoriented, as well as the change from the term “integration” to “inclusion”, in response to which, as some studies require, despite the fact that there was a large display of information to clarify and differentiate them, the matter is that in practice they are treated as something similar, that far from being differentiated, as it is done in the discourse, in fact it seems that they support each other, highlighting the importance of the discourse, at the height of international demands, but a practice that does not translate into the same terms.
