This work is a first step towards approaching an issue that permeates all studies about education, especially during the first years of the nineteenth century. It´s about finding the connections and putting in perspective what we know about the journalistic production and the general outline of the conception and practical application of liberal education during that period. The basic platform of analysis consists in linking these two dimensions to the local elites –a small number by definition. The two key questions are: What role did the press play in the process of transitioning from a colonial mentality to a liberal mentality? And how do we delimit the mutual influences between the journalistic production and the education given in Guadalajara since the beginning of the nineteenth century?
