On April 6th, 1691, Nueva España authorities were ordered to found schools in the Indians towns with the purpose of teaching them the Christian doctrine and Castilian language by o a Cédula real. In fact, there is no documentary evidence concerning to this command in Zacatecas city. Nevertheless, in 1699 and 1730 friars from the convents, who leaded parish churches in the Indians towns, provided some important related information. It was possible as a result of a letters rogatory from Nueva Galicias´s highest authority. It is from these testimonies that the current work exposes the feasible significance of the Cédula real; its content is considered a record of the ABC schools in the providence.
