Abstract

The African Party for the Independence of Guinea Bissau and Cape Verde (PAIGC) is a political group that organized the fight for the national liberation of the aforementioned African territories between the 1960s and 1970s. Amilcar Cabral, leader of the movement, had as one of his priorities the establishment of schools in the liberated territories and the training of cadres which, in addition to making the population literate, would build a national and anti-colonialist identity. Paulo Freire, who collaborated in education for adults after the independence, highlighted the achievements of the process. Vaz Borges presents in his book the militants as builders of an educational system and generators of a revolutionary consciousness. Besides consulting official documents of the sides in the dispute, the author interviewed those who made it possible to generate educational processes during the war of national liberation. The text is a testimony of a peculiar educational process amid the armed conflict.
